Gladstone was first designed as a penal colony ‘The Colony of North Australia’ in 1846 by Queen Victoria and Superintendent Barney made it official in 1847 with an area reaching up to Cape York.

Today Rio Tinto and other Mining Companies dominate this industrial area where we captured sunrise today. Trees in silhouette at the waters edge provided a frame for the sun as it ascended into clear sky above.
