Everything Must Change?

No-one likes change! Recently I was excited to revisit places I ‘d not seen since 1970 when last I visited Perth in Western Australia. I sought out places I’d not been for so long hoping to reignite those old memories but I experienced the effect of change first hand when so many places had gone.

First I went to look for the Scarborough Beach Surf Club where we invited people from the beach in for a free coffee in the evenings to enjoy a psychedelic atmosphere with black lights that changed the colour of our clothing and coffee tables where I would sing folk gospel songs then someone would take a few minutes to say something about Jesus, the thing to do back then so I was hoping to reignite memories I could share with my husband. But the beautiful old surf club was now replaced with a new building that in no way resembled the first. I was disappointed but there was still Kings Park and a couple of other places I was looking forward to seeing.

Then the Kings Park floral clock that I wanted to see again was hard to find after being moved 3 times to make way for ’improvements" but it was a shadow of the first one prominently placed in a prime position overlooking the city of Perth for all to see and I had to hold my camera high above my head to even take a photo and see it properly.

But this morning as I revisited a Bible devotion I’d read years ago I was reminded that we should be generous and not store up earthly stuff but to be generous.

And although everything around us will change two things remain the same, Our God and every promise He’s ever made in His Word will not change and what I do in obedience to Him will last forever!

Because the Lord is my Shepherd, I have everything I need!
He lets me rest in the meadow grass and leads me beside the quiet streams. He gives me new strength. He helps me do what honours him the most.

Even when walking through the dark valley of death I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me, guarding, guiding all the way.

You provide delicious food for me in the presence of my enemies. You have welcomed me as your guest; blessings overflow!

Your goodness and unfailing kindness shall be with me all of my life, and afterwards I will live with you forever in your home. Psalm 23 TLB

“But blessed is the man who trusts me, God,
the woman who sticks with God.
They’re like trees replanted in Eden,
putting down roots near the rivers—
Never a worry through the hottest of summers,
never dropping a leaf,
Serene and calm through droughts,
bearing fresh fruit every season. Jeremiah 17:7-8 MSG
