Here To Worship

Have you ever wished you could be a star and recognised everywhere you go? Looks like a fabulous lifestyle but why do so many stumble or withdraw from all that attention?

In the Bible God explains why:
“Don’t let people do that to you, put you on a pedestal like that. You all have a single Teacher, and you are all classmates. Don’t set people up as experts over your life, letting them tell you what to do. Save that authority for God; let Him tell you what to do. No one else should carry the title of ‘Father’; you have only one Father, and He’s in heaven. And don’t let people maneuver you into taking charge of them. There is only one Life-Leader for you and them—Christ.

“Do you want to stand out? Then step down. Be a servant. If you puff yourself up, you’ll get the wind knocked out of you. But if you’re content to simply be yourself, your life will count for plenty. Matthew 23:8-12

We were never meant for be worshipped and some stars may still be with us if they hadn’t been idolised because we are designed to give not receive worship.

I was privileged to sit under the teaching of Darlene Zschech recently as she shared what true worship is all about. Here are my notes:

A psalm of David:
Show me the path where I should go, O Lord; point out the right road for me to walk.
Lead me; teach me; for you are the God who gives me salvation. I have no hope except in you. Overlook my youthful sins, O Lord! Read more here – Psalm 25

God-friendship is for God-worshipers;
They are the ones he confides in. Giving due worth to God = worth ship

My head is high, God, held high; I’m looking to you, God;
Psalm 25:14 MSG

We were made to worship, not to be worshipped

Worship keeps our hearts alive – Romans 12

Worship in truth – come to me because you want to bring a song – don’t look for an ‘experience’.

The Bible puts it this way:

So let God work His will in you. Yell aloud NO to the Devil and watch him scamper.
Say a quiet YES to God and He’ll be there in no time.
Quit dabbling in sin. Purify your inner life.
Quit playing the field. Hit bottom, and cry your eyes out. The fun and games are over.
Get serious, really serious. Get down on your knees before the Master; it’s the only way you’ll get on your feet. James 4:8

This is what God says,
the God who builds a road right through the ocean,
who carves a path through pounding waves,
The God who summons horses and chariots and armies—
they lie down and then can’t get up;
they’re snuffed out like so many candles:
“Forget about what’s happened;
don’t keep going over old history.
Be alert, be present. I’m about to do something brand-new.
It’s bursting out! Don’t you see it?
There it is! I’m making a road through the desert,
rivers in the badlands.
Wild animals will say ‘Thank you!’
—the coyotes and the buzzards—
Because I provided water in the desert,
rivers through the sun-baked earth,
Drinking water for the people I chose,
the people I made especially for myself,
a people custom-made to praise me.
Isaiah 43:18

We all end up worshipping something.
Genesis 2:12-17

God wanted his heart
Acts 17:28-30

Come by faith through grace

Furthermore, because of Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us from the beginning, and all things happen just as he decided long ago. 12 God’s purpose was that we who were the first to trust in Christ should praise our glorious God.Ephesians 1:11-12

God says: Invite me in and I’ll work on your heart

A Door into Heaven
Then I looked, and, oh!—a door open into Heaven. The trumpet-voice, the first voice in my vision, called out, “Ascend and enter. I’ll show you what happens next.” Revelations 4:1

He was in heaven but still God said ‘Come up, there’s more

When we come into the presence of God we take others with us.

We are born for worship!
