Wild Flowers In The Desert

We came in search of Western Australian wild flowers we’d heard so much about, expecting them to be blooming in abundance, but were disappointed by only tiny glimpses of colour along the highway, not the fields of colour we’d seen in brochures.

Receiving further information we arrived at the gate of a nearby National Park where we found there were entry fees payable, but did we need to pay the fee, we could already see so many beautiful flowers blooming at the entry gate? After capturing photos of 65 different flower species we decided we’d seen them all, but as we turned away I looked at that road going off into the distance, wondering what we were missing by not paying to go in.

Next day when we purchased an Annual Entry Pass to all the parks but we we’re urged to return to the park we’d missed, and this time go through the gate where over 900 different species of flowers were waiting to bring us delight. Once we’d received our entry pass we were free to return as often as we liked and we’ve already received more benefit than the price we paid for our Entry Pass!

Here are some of the most favourite captures… this one was so invisible when looking down onto it that if Col hadn’t pointed it out to me I would have missed it…. but when you look closely, this plant has tiny sticky drops that must catch insects – fascinating!

Then there’s this one red and gorgeous against the pure white sand it was drawing nourishment from.

If we hadn’t decided to pay the Park Fees we would have missed all of these beauties and the hundreds of other species we were able to capture, of every size, shape and colour!

“Listen. What do you make of this? A farmer planted seed. As he scattered the seed, some of it fell on the road and birds ate it. Some fell in the gravel; it sprouted quickly but didn’t put down roots, so when the sun came up it withered just as quickly. Some fell in the weeds; as it came up, it was strangled among the weeds and nothing came of it. Some fell on good earth and came up with a flourish, producing a harvest exceeding his wildest dreams. Mark 4:3-8

It reminded me about what its like when we begin to learn about Jesus.
When you first hear about Him it’s easy to miss what’s really on offer to you, similar to me driving down the highway looking for flowers and seeing none because I wasn’t looking in the right place.

We only have a veiled understanding of what’s on offer until we accept Jesus, then immediately the veil is lifted and we begin to understand what He’s all about, what He’s done for us and how much we need Him.

Jesus says:
“When you come looking for me, you’ll find me.
“Yes, when you get serious about finding me and want it more than anything else, I’ll make sure you won’t be disappointed.” God’s Decree. Jeremiah 29:13-14

If we decide to accept Jesus and the beauty that comes from a personal relationship with Him but after a while spend no time with Him building a personal connection, just like any neglected relationship our love can grow cold. We can make the choice to stop listening to Him, taking back all control of how we live, behave and think but this is what the Bible says.

Even when we are too weak to have any faith left, he remains faithful to us and will help us, for he cannot disown us who are part of himself, and he will always carry out his promises to us. 2 Timothy 2:13

And just like we had to pay the entry fee before we got to experience all the benefits of this beautiful place, you can give Him your everything and do what He wants, paying the price and watching your life fit into His plans, experiencing His constant presence and guidance surrounding, you no matter what you have to face. That’s how much He loves you.

We had to drive a long way into the outback to find these beauties blooming by the roadside for only a few metres on a long stretch of dusty road.

Seeking truth will never disappoint – this is what we could have missed if the road had seemed too far…

“Let not your heart be troubled. You are trusting God, now trust in me. There are many homes up there where my Father lives, and I am going to prepare them for your coming. When everything is ready, then I will come and get you, so that you can always be with me where I am. If this weren’t so, I would tell you plainly. And you know where I am going and how to get there.” John 14:2

Paying the price opens up all of God’s best to you and becoming His child brings with it no disappointment, but a promise of life after death with Him in heaven in your personal mansion built with materials purchased by your dedication and surrender to His plan for you here on earth will be our reward.

We don’t yet see things clearly. We’re squinting in a fog, peering through a mist. But it won’t be long before the weather clears and the sun shines bright! We’ll see it all then, see it all as clearly as God sees us, knowing him directly just as he knows us! 1 Corinthians 13:12
