The Price Of Love

Today is our 50th wedding anniversary!
We’re still best friends with our marriage is still intact!

To those who call us the "perfect couple’, wishing they could be happy too
May I assure you we’re on the same journey with trials just like you.
We are yet to be so in tune together that our marriage is safe from harm
Though we walk together in unity, arm in arm.

Striving to make each plan together, asking God to help us through
Trials are less of a struggle when He shows us what to do
And we still enjoy the journey, with Him blessing along the way
Because we choose to stay together, when at times we’d rather stray.

On a perfect 07/07/70 we were engaged after only one date,
This classic pic was captured as a chance to commemorate
The mutual ‘like’ that was growing, that would one day turn to love
After God made it clear we’d marry in His whisper from above.

With three lovely daughters, all multi-talented and great
Who chose God honouring partners we so thankfully celebrate
And seven wonderful grandchildren, six all making their mark
While the seventh one lives in heaven, I’m sure as happy as a lark.

Blessing upon blessing is how these 50 years have been
As we’ve journeyed along together, what immense pleasures we’ve seen
Doing life together with few arguments it’s true
And so many things in common we both equally love to do!

But we’re both so very different, my lovely man and I
Sometimes it’s tricky to even understand why
One day like Jekyll another like Hyde
We can both display traits of either side.

But, God placed the two of us together, that much is true
So when trouble comes we’re compelled, we must continue to break through
Knowing God won’t allow more trouble than we can endure
We’re must learn to fix each conflict, that much is sure!

Although committed for life is no easy task
As God stays in the centre, we’ll continue to last
With value and mutual respect, we’ll keep saying ‘I do’,
As the wisdom of God keeps guiding us through!

And each awkward moment, as we face them together
We’ll keep on keeping that promise of ‘together forever’
For when marriage doesn’t come with a use-by date
