Is Keeping The Sabbath Important?

-I grew up with these instructions instilled into me. Then I heard a preacher say ‘This was for the old testament. Now that we have Jesus we are released from old regulations’ but we need to give our bodies a rest one day each week to replenish ourselves so we can cope better with the days we’re overstressed.

That made sense to me, but then this morning I read from the old testament a passage that specifically mentioned how important keeping the sabbath was.

I thought back to the days of my youth, where I for a time had no choice but to go to bed on Sunday afternoons after attending Sunday School and Church because any leisure activities of any kind were unholy. Friends at my door were turned away because I wasn’t allowed to play on Sundays. Even reading a comic in bed instead of trying to sleep was frowned upon as evil and for a long time a sunny afternoon drive was out of the question, for fear of disobeying God.

My husband and I discussed this Jeremiah 17:24-27 passage.

These were serious words. Are they for us today? Are we in error for letting it pass as a normal day?
