The Gift of Dawn

It seems the whole earth is in upheaval right now.
This COVID pandemic has exposed to our weakness and to how quickly we become undone when things out of our control start interfering with our daily routine.

While America suffers the onslaught of riots about injustice for those who were born black, our own country suffers from the effects of drought, out of control bush fires and flooding rains, with families mourning the loss of loved ones and animals who couldn’t get out of the way now may be lost forever.

While Christians were praying, this devastation also fostered calls to prayer from those with no connection to God. Because only God can divert strong winds from fire fronts that threaten townships.
Only God can cause rain to fall in the right place to extinguish fires burning out of control along the whole of Australia’s eastern seaboard.
Only God can end years of drought and make the earth ready for planting again.

When we’re at our end we come to realize that God is our only hope. When we’re forced to face our reality we better understand how God alone can turn the tide and bring a lasting change. The problem is that when we can become proud of our achievements this can erode our commonsense, blinding us to the reality of our limitations. But when trouble comes, in our weakness, we are again reminded of how frail we are against the forces of nature. And our prayers were answered with welcome rains to extinguish the fires.

Through news broadcasts from around the world, many times we’ve seen what others are facing. War in the Middle East, the havoc caused after an earthquake with rescuers who frantically search. Seeing our need for God only happens when we understand how frail we are.

Why am I saying all this?
The biggest mistake we make as proud humans is to believe the lie that all we see around is the results of a one time big bang!

Explosions don’t create anything, they only bring destruction! We all know that, right? Earthquakes are a great example of what an explosion causes.

Think for a minute…Have we ever seen a news broadcast that an explosion instantly birthing something good? The answer is no, because explosions only bring destruction and chaos. To suggest that we all exist as the result of a big bang is foolishness at best when we know the result destruction, not creation.

What makes us accept this mindless foolishness as a reality of life?
Think about it… what do you understand about life, about why you’re here?

Have you ever watched a sunrise?
This sunrise was captured by me recently on Currumbin Beach at dawn. This is the reason I get up every day to capture the beauty.

Sunrise soothes the soul, giving me time alone with God. At dawn, when my mind is attentive to the beauty around me I’m less distracted by the cares of life. As I witness the spectacle of the rising sun I see new beauty or gain a new God-breathed revelation while I’m concentrating on Him. Sunrise is the perfect place to hear God speak as I stand in awe of Him.

The beauty of Sunrise!

Clouds on the horizon kept the beauty from view
As the sunrise ascended, eventually shining through.
With rays of gold that reached into the blue
This was a lovely morning, that much is true!

God offers His beauty new every morning
On a grey winters day, there’s nothing more warming
Sometimes when it’s raining, it makes you feel blue
But then, if you wait, His rays shine through

Why does God care that our day begins right?
Except that He makes it for our delight!
He’s declaring His love as we start each day
So we know that He’s with us, come what may

His thoughts are for us, they outnumber the sand
And He waits patiently with an outstretched hand
You see He knows all about the dangers that lay
In the shadows before us that could lead us astray

With mercy, forgiveness for all we’ve done wrong
And hope for a future where we finally belong
Where we can be the one we’re designed to be
Sharing His love for others around us to see

But we need to trust Him, trust Him we must
If we want to do all that He plans for us
So stay on the path where He’s leading the way
With each new sunrise beautifully lighting our way! Elaine Brook 2020

It amazes me how the many facets of God’s creation work together for our benefit!

As a shady tree not only brings protection from the sun but cleansing to the air we breathe,
How the ocean knows where to stop to keep us from harm as we admire its beauty
How many different species of flowers bloom, in their own unique way offering not only beauty to the eye but sweet perfume to the air like they only can do.

There’s a sweet-smelling fragrance as the earth rejoices when the rain comes to revitalize parched land.

Think about your much-loved pet that knows just when to bring unconditional love when we feel sad,

Think about how a plain-looking caterpillar turns into a butterfly after a period of rest, then the cycle begins all over again in perfect order.

This beauty is a reason to be thankful, not the result of a big bang!

Then there are the seasons that change faithfully each year, bringing with them new beauty that lay dormant before as leaves sprout or change colour and fall while tree roots grow deeper in search of nourishment, ready for the cycle to begin again.

How we have the ability to recreate ourselves from an act of extreme pleasure,
How, when when we cut ourselves we heal again,
How our bones knit together after they break… We are fearfully and wonderfully made!

The list of all that is amazing about our world could never be adequately listed here.

To believe we exist from a big bang brings with it far more questions than answers…
Evolution is taught as our reason for being but what about this…
If we came from apes, why are apes still alive and well and still living as apes?
That something can evolve into something else simply by deciding it needs to, makes no sense at all.
That something has grown legs and walked out of the ocean to live on dry land is beyond impossible to imagine!

While walking in a Western Australian forest walk I noticed signs all along the pathway explaining how plants had evolved, and how, because of the arid soil with little food for their survival these plants decided, instead, to live on ants.

Some rain forest plants are designed to gain nourishment from insects, uniquely shaped to catch their prey, take the flycatcher for instance. But common sense reveals how impossible it would be for any old plant to change their diet for survival.
When we change our diet, our body rejects what’s not meant to eat and we suffer the consequences. In extreme conditions with no food in the soil to sustain them, plants die. Without water or nourishment, life is lost, that’s a fact of life. How could a starving plant just ‘decide’ to eat ants? Without a brain to reason that ants could possibly sustain them, how would they know?

We can’t even do that!
When a doctor diagnoses a terminal illness like cancer, for instance, we, the more intelligent species, are powerless to bring ourselves recovery by deciding we will change our destiny. Even with all our loved ones banding together with hope of a better outcome, we can’t just ‘grow legs’ as we’ve been led to believe and release ourselves from impending doom.

As humans, we know how powerless we are to bring about change. This reality either turns our minds to ho the God who loves us and is waiting for us to turn to Him or to substance abuse and even thoughts of ending our lives to take away the pain. We, without God, are unable to change anything…

Here is what the Bible, God’s Word says…
About the Creation of everything:

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good.
And God separated the light from the darkness.
God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day. Genesis 1:1-31

Though our pride would tell us we don’t need God, we will never do what only God can do. Here’s what He asks those who doubt His reality:

“Have you ever once commanded the morning to appear and caused the dawn to rise in the east?
Have you ever told the daylight to spread to the ends of the earth, to end the night’s wickedness?
Have you ever robed the dawn in red, and disturbed the haunts of wicked men, and stopped the arm raised to strike? Job 38:12

Because we’ve been placed here with such beauty, we have an obligation to recognize this blessing is from God and be grateful…

Praise him from sunrise to sunset! Psalm 113:3

From the rising of the sun to its setting my name will be great among the nations… says the Lord of hosts. Malachi 1:11

God doesn’t just bless those who are thankful, He loves everyone and wants to show it:
He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. Matthew 5:45

But for those who follow Him He promises:

For you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings.
You shall go out leaping like calves from the stall. Malachi 4:2

Our world won’t last forever:

And though all heaven and earth shall pass away, yet my words remain forever true. Luke 21:33,

“Take a lesson from the fig tree. From the moment you notice its buds form, the merest hint of green, you know summer’s just around the corner. So it is with you: When you see all these things, you’ll know he’s at the door. Don’t take this lightly. I’m not just saying this for some future generation, but for all of you. This age continues until all these things take place. Sky and earth will wear out; my words won’t wear out. Matthew 24:35

If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9

As sure as dawn breaks, so sure is his daily arrival.
He comes as rain comes, as spring rain refreshing the ground” Hosea 6:3

Why do I capture the sunrise each day?
To wait in the darkness to record His display?
My days exist to spread Jesus’ love,
To tell you He’s real, this God from above,

If I kept this my secret how would you find out?
How would I explain why I left you out?

For you are important, not only to me
I may not know you, but I need you to see
That you’re God’s special project and He want you to meet
To know our God of Creation and bow at His feet

To realize that with His help there’s always a way
When life seems impossible and your future seems grey

Because even if you were the last one on earth
He’d still suffer that cross, to bring you new birth
For He loves you far more than you’ll ever know
And He wants to redeem you, if you’ll give Him a go.

He’s right there with you, He’s never away
He waits patiently for you to give Him your day!
He makes beautiful bookends, sunrise and sunset
So we know that He’s with us and we need never fret!

So, accept His love and believe that He’s there,
For He’ll always be with you If your troubles you share
If we trust Him we don’t need to fear what’s next
When we’ve laid down our burdens He takes care of the rest.
