My Baby's Back

So many years have passed since I last saw her, my beautiful little red SFX Coupe! I still remember feeling sad as I watched her drive up our driveway and out of sight… but now I was getting her back!

We had an 8 hour drive ahead but the distance didn’t bother me, I was so excited as we headed onto the highway. We were on the way to re-buying my much loved little red sports car that I reluctantly sold 13 years ago.

When we arrived we booked into a hotel for the night and waited. Next morning found me watching at the window with the sound of every car that came by, then there she was in the motel car park, delivered back by the girl we’d sold her to 13 years earlier, and like me she was also sad to see her go.

But I was so excited to have her back that I didn’t even see the need to take a test drive, no matter what her condition I knew I wanted her back.

I didn’t love her any less when I saw the paint work blemishes, the high kilometres she’d travelled, how old she was, the rust marks that needed fixing and the mechanical repairs outstanding, I just happily paid the asking price then we hit the highway for home.

Heavy rain falling on the return journey didn’t dampen my enthusiasm either, my baby was mine again and I was overjoyed, it was just like old times!

She was a little less perfect she was 13 years ago but her battle scars could be fixed and I couldn’t wait to get started.

Then I heard a gentle whisper from Jesus…
“The joy you are feeling is like I feel when someone surrenders to me!”

Wow!
Because God has given us the decision whether we want Him or not, He loves us from a distance until we see who He really is and decide turn to him.

And no matter how far we’ve been away from Him, no matter how many scars we’ve gained or how old we are, His joy is expressed with a party with all the angels in heaven when someone that He loves with all His heart finally ‘gets Him’, understanding their need for Jesus and surrendering to Him.

Then, although we bare the scars of wrong choices from life in an imperfect world, He throws a welcome home party for us and all of heaven rejoices, lovingly wearing our ‘rust’ away and restoring us to the person He always planned for us to be.

This is how the Bible puts it:

If someone has a hundred sheep and one of them wanders off, doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine and go after the one? And if he finds it, doesn’t he make far more over it than over the ninety-nine who stay put? Your Father in heaven feels the same way. He doesn’t want to lose even one. Matthew 18:12

Angels rejoice when one person sees the light.
Count on it—there’s more joy in heaven over one sinner’s rescued life than over ninety-nine good people in no need of rescue. Luke 15:4-7

Jesus paid all our debt by His sacrifice on the cross and our past mistakes are forgiven when we accept Him! John 3:16-18
