Gay Marriage - What's God Got To Do With It?

The current issue is whether or not two people of the same gender should marry.
If they love each other they should have a right to be happy, right?

So why take notice of what the Bible says?

The world is very much in a spiritual battle right now with our world in the midst of a cultural war and values long held to keep our world safe are being consistently challenged and eroded. Opponents of God’s law are systematically reversing these principals one by one in a bid to make life better… but will throwing out these principles make a better world?

The Bible is our blueprint from the one who created us and intimately knows what we need to make our lives complete. God says we should put away our own selfish desires and strive for love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control as most important things in life. This means sometimes we have to put our own wants aside for the sake of others, but imagine how amazing our world would be if everyone lived this way! There’s be no more famine, everyone would feel connected and loved with mutual respect for each other would be heaven on earth, life the way God planned it!

The following verses are not doing what God says. Please note am not saying gay relationships will spawn this, there will be good and bad experiences in every kind of relationship. This is about what happens when we turn away from what God says and that’s what this blog is about…

Every day we see these principles nullified as many tumble towards hatred, fear, unrest, impatience, selfishness, misery and sometimes insanity, lives spiralling out of control and grasping for alcohol, drugs and even suicide as a way to be free from torment or pain. That’s the consequence when we move away from what God designed for us. When we do things God’s way the opposite is true.

What happens when we live God’s way? He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard—things like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity. We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely.

Legalism is helpless in bringing this about; it only gets in the way. Among those who belong to Christ, everything connected with getting our own way and mindlessly responding to what everyone else calls necessities is killed off for good—crucified. Galatians 5:22-23

What has this to do with Gay marriage?

It was recently reported that a gay man filed a $70M Suit against Bible publishers over ‘homosexual’ verses, unaware that God’s decrees cannot be altered. But should a clay pot complain to the potter who crafted it, “You didn’t make me right, I want to be something else!”

Our perspective will always be swayed by our own agendas but our opinions are irrelevant. God always has a good reason for his laws, and like all laws they are designed to be followed just like there is a domino effect when we don’t follow the rules. This video brings an interesting perspective.

“If God said it, I believe it and that settles it!” was a popular comment w while back, but do we have the right to question God when someone disagrees with Him? Do we ever have that right?

This vote is not about hatred of gays or about love or about our opinions on marriage, it’s about God’s Will and whether or not we accept it.

We as Christians have a responsibility to stand up for what God says at every opportunity, even when it appears unpopular. Most people don’t even know that the Bible also says that one day we will all bow before Jesus and declare Him Lord, whether we accepted Him or not – see Philippians below:

God raised Jesus up to the heights of heaven and gave Him a name which is above every other name, that at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:11

And on that day our opinions won’t matter, only the choice we made about God will – it’s that serious.
