Leaving Our Mark

White ash marks the spot where once stood a tree but soon the wind will drive the ash away, with any memory of the tree gone forever.

Just like that tree we live, we die, ashes to ashes, dust to dust then for a time we’re missed by those who knew us before we are also forgotten with just an entry on the Births, Deaths and Marriages Registry to prove we ever existed, so what’s it all about, why are we here in the first place? What’s our reason for being?

And what impression will we have had on others when its finally our turn to move into eternity?

Is living a good life and following the 10 commandments enough?

The Bible, our blueprint for a successful life here on earth, has the answer to all of these questions!

To understand our purpose, firstly we need to connect with the one who made us, Our Creator who says…
“Look! I have been standing at the door, and I am constantly knocking. If anyone hears me calling him and opens the door, I will come in and fellowship with him and he with me. Revelation 3:20

And when our time comes to die, our last breath on earth transports us into the presence of our Creator! No-one is exempt, so what happens next?

If we’re in a personal relationship with our maker at the time of our death, we receive our reward…

For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son so that anyone who believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

If we’ve been obedient to what He’s asked us to do, our salvation is assured…

For if you tell others with your own mouth that Jesus Christ is your Lord and believe in your own heart that God has raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in his heart that a man becomes right with God; and with his mouth he tells others of his faith, confirming his salvation. Romans 10:9-10

It’s always up to us to make a move towards and to be obedient to God. He never forces us, it’s our choice..

Many accepting Jesus as their saviour believe that saying yes is ALL they need to do to get to heaven. If you aren’t familiar with what He says in His Word you may not understand what happens next.

Recognising our need for Jesus and accepting Him is just the first step.

There’s more to being a Christian than saying yes to Jesus. When we become a child of His we are on assignment to do what He asks us to do, because God wants everyone in His family, not just us.

Imagine this…

How would it feel to stand before our Lord on Judgement Day and watch as one by one the people we did life with, the ones we were supposed to tell of Jesus free offer of salvation were being sent to the queue on the wrong side of the throne because we never told them of His love and sacrifice for them.

It’s important to understand the reason we’re here and our earth mission, if we don’t get this right there will be regret…

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ Matthew 7:21-23

They are pretty strong words… but God gave us instructions on how to live to make the world for us a better place, the way He always intended before Adam disobeyed.

God made it clear to us how important obeying Him is when he punished Adam for disobeyed Him in the Garden. And as a consequence we immediately reaped the curse of sin, hard work and pain in child birth. We all have Adam’s disobedience to thank for that! Read the Bible account here in Genesis 3:17-19

God is not a scary old man with a stick ready to pounce on us but He is compelled to reach every last person on earth with His love and forgiveness so that no-one misses out. It’s not difficult to share with others, it’s about fitting into your God shape, with the talents He has already given you, then if He asks you to do something, do it! It’s that simple and you’ll be amazed at the journey He takes you on if you’re willing to obey!

God left us in charge, equipping us with every talent we need to fulfil our mission for Him and it’s up to us to share His love with others, otherwise they won’t ever get the chance to see God the way we do.

Some when they die, leave a lasting impression and their memory lives on. That’s the way God planned it, we are all mean to live this life with purpose, so what will mark our passing?

Put your heart and soul into every activity you do, as though you are doing it for the Lord himself and not merely for others. For we know that we will receive a reward, an inheritance from the Lord, as we serve the Lord Yahweh, the Anointed One! Colossians 3:23-25 TPT
