Forgiveness undeserved

This morning as I walked up the beach looking for the best place to capture sunrise, I noticed a truck bogged in the the sand at the lakes entrance and the tide was coming in.

It looked like a van that cleans the rubbish bins on the beach each morning and the driver is aware of how to cross this area without getting stuck so I was a little confused.

As I began to take advantage of the unusual photo opportunity, a policeman standing by told me the driver had been rolled further up the beach and his van stolen.

I felt compassion for the driver who was apparently ok but I wondered what would make someone do such a cruel act.

As I saw this ‘crime scene’ transformed at sunrise, I was reminded of our insignificance when compared with the greatness of God.

I don’t know what drives someone to behave this way but its not my place to judge, each one has their own road to travel and none of us are guilt free.

God loves everyone and died for us warts and all, it wasn’t just for the ‘good’ people. We don’t need to jump through hoops to gain His approval, we could never gain acceptance that way.

In the Bible, God says:

Saving is all his idea and all his work. All we do is trust him enough to let him do it. It’s God’s gift from start to finish! We don’t play the major role. If we did, we’d probably go around bragging that we’d done the whole thing! Ephesians 2:8-9 Msg

If someone falls into sin, forgivingly restore him saving your critical comments for yourself. You might be needing forgiveness before the day’s out. Galatians 6:1 Msg

Since we’ve compiled this long and sorry record as sinners and proved that we are utterly incapable of living the glorious lives God wills for us, God did it for us. Out of sheer generosity he put us in right standing with himself. A pure gift. He got us out of the mess we’re in and restored us to where he always wanted us to be. And he did it by means of Jesus Christ. Romans 3:23-24 Msg

“This is how much God loved the world: He gave Jesus, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and everlasting life. John 3:16 Msg

And how do we get this forgiveness?
God says: "Look at me. I stand at the door. I knock. If you hear me call and open the door, I’ll come right in and sit down to supper with you. Revelations 3:20 Msg
