How To Beat The Rush On Doomsday

A few minutes ago I sat a couple of seats away from a man as he shared with his friend how his sister goes to sleep at night in fear of the future. He said ‘50% of the world has turned into doomsdayers now, just waiting for the world to end. This world is in a mess there’s no doubt and one day, the Bible says, the world will end.

But should we live petrified with fear? Or should we dig a bunker and filling it with food and wealth in readiness for the end? Will that sort of behaviour even keep us from doom until the rations run out? It doesn’t paint a very attractive picture does it.

‘Confess now and beat the rush on doomsday’ was a popular saying back in the ‘70s. Live how we want and just before death choose Jesus so we get into heaven because there’s plenty of time…

“But the exact day and hour? No one knows that, not even heaven’s angels, not even the Son. Only the Father. So keep a sharp lookout, for you don’t know the timetable. It’s like a man who takes a trip, leaving home and putting his servants in charge, each assigned a task, and commanding the gatekeeper to stand watch. So, stay at your post, watching. You have no idea when the homeowner is returning, whether evening, midnight, cockcrow, or morning. You don’t want him showing up unannounced, with you asleep on the job. I say it to you, and I’m saying it to all: Stay at your post. Keep watch.” Mark 13:32

Don’t wait ‘til doomsday… It’s not too late right now! Don’t get left behind….

In our screaming for freedom from restrictions of the past our world is stepping deeper into despair, not the liberty that they are imagining, evidenced by the murder suicides that are becoming common and the suicide bombers that sacrifice their lives in the quest for some kind of gold star and secure place in heaven.

Seek the road that makes death a fulfilment!

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." John 8:12

But now God has shown us a different way to heaven—not by “being good enough” and trying to keep his laws, but by a new way (though not new, really, for the Scriptures told about it long ago). Now God says he will accept and acquit us—declare us “not guilty”—if we trust Jesus Christ to take away our sins. And we all can be saved in this same way, by coming to Christ, no matter who we are or what we have been like. Yes, all have sinned; all fall short of God’s glorious ideal; yet now God declares us “not guilty” of offending him if we trust in Jesus Christ, who in his kindness freely takes away our sins. Romans 3:21-24

Work hard for sin your whole life and your pension is death. But God’s gift is real life, eternal life, delivered by Jesus, our Master.Romans 6:23

If we claim that we’re free of sin, we’re only fooling ourselves. A claim like that is errant nonsense. On the other hand, if we admit our sins—make a clean breast of them—he won’t let us down; he’ll be true to himself. He’ll forgive our sins and purge us of all wrongdoing. If we claim that we’ve never sinned, we out-and-out contradict God—make a liar out of him. A claim like that only shows off our ignorance of God. 1 John 1:9

Jesus says: "Come to me and I will give you rest—all of you who work so hard beneath a heavy yoke. Wear my yoke—for it fits perfectly—and let me teach you; for I am gentle and humble, and you shall find rest for your souls; for I give you only light burdens.” Matthew 11:25-30

We won’t see God clearly until we decide we need Him:
Whenever we turn to face God as Moses did, God removes the veil and there we are—face-to-face! We suddenly recognise that God is a living, personal presence, not a piece of chiselled stone. And when God is personally present, a living Spirit, that old, constricting legislation is recognised as obsolete. We’re free of it! All of us! Nothing between us and God, our faces shining with the brightness of his face. And so we are transfigured much like the Messiah, our lives gradually becoming brighter and more beautiful as God enters our lives and we become like him. 2 Corinthians 3:16-18

If you declare that Jesus is Lord, and believe that God brought him back to life, you will be saved. By believing you receive God’s approval, and by declaring your faith you are saved. Romans 10:9-10

That’s plain enough, isn’t it? You’re no longer wandering exiles. This kingdom of faith is now your home country. You’re no longer strangers or outsiders. You belong here, with as much right to the name Christian as anyone. God is building a home. He’s using us all – irrespective of how we got here – in what he is building. Ephesians 2:19

And just as it is destined that men die only once, and after that comes judgment, so also Christ died only once as an offering for the sins of many people; and he will come again, but not to deal again with our sins.

This time he will come bringing salvation to all those who are eagerly and patiently waiting for him. Hebrews 9:27-28

If you care please share, and help bring light to our increasingly dark world for Jesus sake – Amen
