Can we predict the day Jesus will come back?

Some proudly declared He would return in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013, only to be disappointed when Jesus didn’t show up…. But still these predictions continue.

Some even believe He’s already returned and reigning here on earth, but the Bible reputes this theory.

Why is Jesus’ promised return important?

Our belief or disbelief about Jesus won’t alter what takes place and it will effect every person, those who’ve already died and those who are still alive when He returns. In other words, everyone born on planet Earth. What we decide about Jesus will determine where we spend eternity when he returns!

Many consider themselves too wise to believe what the Bible says – why has God made His plan so hard to comprehend?

Here’s what the Bible, the Word of God that has an answer for everything we will ever face, say about this hugely important event?

I know very well how foolish the message of the cross sounds to those who are on the road to destruction. But we who are being saved recognize this message as the very power of God. As the Scriptures say, “I will destroy human wisdom and discard their most brilliant ideas.”

So where does this leave the philosophers, the scholars and the world’s brilliant debaters? God has made them all look foolish and has shown their wisdom to be useless nonsense.

Since God in his wisdom saw to it that the world would never find him through human wisdom, he has used our foolish preaching to save all who believe.

God’s way seems foolish to the Jews because they want a sign from heaven to prove it is true. And it is foolish to the Greeks because they believe only what agrees with their own wisdom.

So when we preach that Christ was crucified, the Jews are offended, and the Gentiles say it’s all nonsense. But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles, Christ is the mighty power of God and the wonderful wisdom of God.

This “foolish” plan of God is far wiser than the wisest of human plans and God’s weakness is far stronger than the greatest of human strength.

Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes, or powerful, or wealthy when God called you. Instead, God deliberately chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose those who are powerless to shame those who are powerful.

God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important, so that no one can ever boast in the presence of God.

God alone made it possible for you to be in Christ Jesus.

For our benefit God made Christ to be wisdom itself. He is the one who made us acceptable to God. He made us pure and holy, and he gave himself to purchase our freedom.

As the Scriptures say, “The person who wishes to boast should boast only of what the Lord has done.”1 Corinthians 1:18-31"://www.biblestudytools.com/nlt/1-corinthians/passage.aspx?q=1-corinthians+1:4-31

When will Jesus return, how will we know?

Look! He comes with the clouds of heaven. And everyone will see him — even those who pierced him. And all the nations of the earth will weep because of him. Amen! Revelation 1:7

He may come in the middle of the night or just before dawn. But whenever he comes, there will be special favour for his servants who are ready!

Know this: A homeowner who knew exactly when a burglar was coming would not permit the house to be broken into.

You must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected." Luke 12:38-40 NLT

And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. Matthew 24:14. Read on…

As Jesus was leaving the Temple grounds, his disciples pointed out to him the various Temple buildings.
But he told them, “Do you see all these buildings? I assure you, they will be so completely demolished that not one stone will be left on top of another!”

Later, Jesus sat on the slopes of the Mount of Olives. His disciples came to him privately and asked, “When will all this take place? And will there be any sign ahead of time to signal your return and the end of the world ?”

Jesus told them, "Don’t let anyone mislead you. For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Messiah.’ They will lead many astray.

And wars will break out near and far, but don’t panic. Yes, these things must come, but the end won’t follow immediately.

The nations and kingdoms will proclaim war against each other, and there will be famines and earthquakes in many parts of the world. But all this will be only the beginning of the horrors to come.

Then you will be arrested, persecuted, and killed. You will be hated all over the world because of your allegiance to me. And many will turn away from me and betray and hate each other.

And many false prophets will appear and will lead many people astray.

Sin will be rampant everywhere, and the love of many will grow cold. But those who endure to the end will be saved.

And the Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations will hear it; and then, finally, the end will come.

“The time will come when you will see what Daniel the prophet spoke about: the sacrilegious object that causes desecration standing in the Holy Place” — reader, pay attention!

“Then those in Judea must flee to the hills.

A person outside the house must not go inside to pack. A person in the field must not return even to get a coat.

How terrible it will be for pregnant women and for mothers nursing their babies in those days. And pray that your flight will not be in winter or on the Sabbath.

For that will be a time of greater horror than anything the world has ever seen or will ever see again. In fact, unless that time of calamity is shortened, the entire human race will be destroyed. But it will be shortened for the sake of God’s chosen ones.

“Then if anyone tells you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah,’ or ‘There he is,’ don’t pay any attention. For false messiahs and false prophets will rise up and perform great miraculous signs and wonders so as to deceive, if possible, even God’s chosen ones.
See, I have warned you.

“So if someone tells you, ‘Look, the Messiah is out in the desert,’ don’t bother to go and look. Or, ‘Look, he is hiding here,’ don’t believe it! For as the lightning lights up the entire sky, so it will be when the Son of Man comes. Just as the gathering of vultures shows there is a carcass nearby, so these signs indicate that the end is near.

“Immediately after those horrible days end, the sun will be darkened, the moon will not give light, the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of heaven will be shaken. And then at last, the sign of the coming of the Son of Man will appear in the heavens, and there will be deep mourning among all the nations of the earth.

And they will see the Son of Man arrive on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he will send forth his angels with the sound of a mighty trumpet blast, and they will gather together his chosen ones from the farthest ends of the earth and heaven.

“Now learn a lesson from the fig tree. When its buds become tender and its leaves begin to sprout, you know without being told that summer is near. Just so, when you see the events I’ve described beginning to happen, you can know his return is very near, right at the door. I assure you, this generation will not pass from the scene before all these things take place.

Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will remain forever.

“However, no one knows the day or the hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows.

“When the Son of Man returns, it will be like it was in Noah’s day. In those days before the Flood, the people were enjoying banquets and parties and weddings right up to the time Noah entered his boat.

People didn’t realise what was going to happen until the Flood came and swept them all away. That is the way it will be when the Son of Man comes.

“Two men will be working together in the field; one will be taken, the other left. Two women will be grinding flour at the mill; one will be taken, the other left. So be prepared, because you don’t know what day your Lord is coming.

“Know this: A homeowner who knew exactly when a burglar was coming would stay alert and not permit the house to be broken into. You also must be ready all the time. For the Son of Man will come when least expected.

“Who is a faithful, sensible servant, to whom the master can give the responsibility of managing his household and feeding his family?

If the master returns and finds that the servant has done a good job, there will be a reward. I assure you, the master will put that servant in charge of all he owns. But if the servant is evil and thinks, ‘My master won’t be back for a while,’ and begins oppressing the other servants, partying, and getting drunk — well, the master will return unannounced and unexpected.

He will tear the servant apart and banish him with the hypocrites. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Matthew 24

So is Judgement day coming? Will we have to give an account for our lives?
“There is no judgment awaiting those who trust him. But those who do not trust him have already been judged for not believing in the only Son of God.

Their judgment is based on this fact: The light from heaven came into the world, but they loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil.

They hate the light because they want to sin in the darkness.

They stay away from the light for fear their sins will be exposed and they will be punished.

But those who do what is right come to the light gladly, so everyone can see that they are doing what God wants." John 3:18-21

So why is Jesus coming back? The answer lies here:

For since we believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus comes, God will bring back with Jesus all the Christians who have died.

I can tell you this directly from the Lord: We who are still living when the Lord returns will not rise to meet him ahead of those who are in their graves.

For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the call of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, all the Christians who have died will rise from their graves.

Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and remain with him forever.

So comfort and encourage each other with these words. 1 Thessalonians 4:14-18

Everyone will be there to see The parade of God’s salvation. Luke 3:6 MSG

Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. 1 Corinthians 13:12
