Now about Eternity...

This morning as I headed out onto the rock shelf to capture the beauty of sunrise I noticed that someone had scratched the word Eternity onto the rocks.

This brought memories flooding back. Memories of when I worked in the heart of Sydney when I was young. I would often see the word Eternity written in beautiful handwriting on the pavement as I walked to work each day and one morning I actually saw Arthur writing Eternity. This would have been not long before he died.

The story of Arthur Stace, Sydney’s shy, mysterious poet is explained in detail here and the pictures of early Sydney are priceless.

That the City of Sydney would honour the tireless work of Arthur Stace is testament to the influence of this man.

He proved that it is possible to hear from God and have a personal relationship with Him.

He showed us that someone with sadness, regret and seemingly not much to offer, can believe God loves them regardless of their failures. They can accept that they are important to God, believe He has a reason for their existence and agree to step out into the unknown, allowing HIm to make a difference in the world through their them.

Arthur is in heaven now, but his legacy still lives on.

This word written on the rocks this morning by someone clearly impacted by Arthur’s story shows God is still influencing people through the obedience of this one man.

Thank you Arthur Stace for spending so many years simply writing this word Eternity in chalk on the ground, to show us all that we have a reason for being here and we need to think about where we will spend eternity.

But Jesus’ priesthood is permanent. He’s there from now to eternity. Hebrews7:24

God’s gift has restored our relationship with him and given us back our lives. And there’s more life to come – an eternity of life! Titus 3:7

The world and all its wanting, wanting, wanting is on the way out – but whoever does what God wants is set for eternity. 1 John 2:17 MSG

So where’s your heart right now? What do you believe about your future?

This is what the Bible says about you:
For I know the plans I have for you," says the LORD. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11 NLT

We are uniquely wired to fulfil the purposes for which we’re alive, that’s why no two people are alike.

Read here in Psalm 139 about God and you from the New Living Translation of the Bible

Here is a song written about the life and conversion of Arthur Stace.

There is nothing in this life that is worth taking you away and/or keeping you from Jesus.
Hell is the promised destination for those who reject the love Jesus displayed on the cross and the Bible is very clear on who won’t make it to Heaven
( 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, Galatians 5:19-21, )

When we’re willing to believe what God believes about us and do what He says, we get to impact our surroundings and our world in a way we could never imagine, bringing deep satisfaction and joy to life and making others glad you came.
