The Day The Sun Stood Still

Wow! That was a huge prayer of faith. I can’t imagine myself asking God to stop the sun in its tracks, but Joshua did.

Joshua prayed to the LORD in front of all the people of Israel. He said, “Let the sun stand still over Gibeon, and the moon over the valley of Aijalon.”…

So the sun and moon stood still until the Israelites had defeated their enemies. Is this event not recorded in The Book of Jashar? The sun stopped in the middle of the sky, and it did not set as on a normal day.
The LORD fought for Israel that day. Never before or since has there been a day like that one, when the LORD answered such a request from a human being. Joshua 10:12-14 NLT

Joshua combined faith in God and the inner ‘knowing’ He was doing what God wanted him to do. That’s the secret of receiving answered prayer…

So if God can do anything, He will hear and answer your prayers right?

He isn’t like a genie though where we rub the lamp and have whatever we wish for will be granted. Provided we ask for the right thing and we’re in line with God’s will, we will have everything we need – not necessarily all we want, but definitely all we need. We need to pray with the right focus.

Here’s what the Bible says about Effective Prayer:

“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. "Don’t bargain with God. Be direct. Ask for what you need. Matthew 7:7 MSG

If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! Matthew 7:11 NIV

“Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. Matthew 18:19 NIV

If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer." Matthew 21:22 NIV

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it and it will be yours. Mark 11:24 NIV

“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. Luke 11:9 NIV

If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!" Luke 11:13 NIV

And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. John 14:13 NIV

You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it. John 14:14 NIV

But how do you know if you’re praying with the right focus? The answer is to meditate on what the Bible says -

And don’t for a minute let this Book of The Revelation be out of mind. Ponder and meditate on it day and night, making sure you practice everything written in it. Then you’ll get where you’re going; then you’ll succeed. Joshua 1:8 MSG

If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. John 15:7 NIV

You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit—fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. John 15:16 NIV

Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete. John 16:24 NIV

Now glory be to God! By His mighty power at work within us, He is able to accomplish infinitely more than we would ever dare to ask or hope. May He be given glory in the church and in Christ Jesus forever and ever through endless ages. Amen. Ephesians 3:20-21 NLT
